See The Voices was a collaborative project of "Beit Hatfutsot Museum", "Yad Ben Zvi" and the "Ministry for Social Equality".
Its aim was to make the commemoration of the collective memory of the Jewish people accessible to every citizen, ensuring that the collection of stories is done easily and conveniently for future generations.
This application is based on the user generated content (UGC) method.
Thanks to the user experiences I have created in this app and to the technology available to us, we were able to make storytelling something that anyone can achieve. In this way, we allow each user to take part in creating the national memory of the Jewish people and at the same time perpetuate the stories of his personal family.
The goal of the Ministry of Social Equality in collaboration with the Ministry of Education was to put the app into use through the education system.
With this in mind, we defined the following target audiences:
The elements we looked for were:
Uploading content by users, providing help and shooting instructions to make it easier for the user, shooting video under instructions, comparing to familiar games in terms of "creating stages".
In a world where we are all professional photographers, anyone can use the app and take part in the project.
The app should show users what content to shoot and how, what questions to ask, what topics are worth talking about and in what sequence and how to make the entire thing interesting instead of boring.
We wanted the app to be easy and simple. Also, in order to get accurate and interesting details from the users, we divided the photography, that is the memory collection, into stages. We then asked users to focus on a different part of the story each time.
We followed these 3 principles:
My choices were guided by the goal of creating something that serves the product and its users and fits the nature of the whole project.
We came up with a clean and bright design, with black and white as the leading colors in order to give a stage to the footage and color of each user.
Combining elements from the gaming world, we treated each station as if it was a stage in the game and the goal was to paint it.
